Solar films on a round heat storage of a heat power plant in Marburg

15th of December 2021

Solar power generation on a round surface not possible? It IS with Heliatek’s flexible solar film HeliaSol!

Our solar films have been applied to a round heat storage facility at the heat power plant Ortenberg operated by the Municipal Utility of the City of Marburg (Stadtwerke Marburg) in Germany. The projects, which was realized in November demonstrates the versatility of possible applications of the solar films even on round shaped surfaces.

The installation was realized during a regular maintenance, where the heat storage was scaffolded anyway, so the installation could be efficiently realized simultaneously. Thanks to HeliaSol’s backside adhesive, the films could easily be applied to the heat storage during a regular maintenance period without penetrating the surface. This and the easiness of installation were key factors for the Municipal Utility to test the organic solar films from Dresden.

The installation is one of three innovative solar solutions that are tested onsite. Beside the heat storage, a bifacial solar fence and a solar walkway will be tested. The Stadtwerke Marburg is the leading utility in the region and has a clear commitment to sustainability. Holger Armbrüster, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Marburg GmbH: "Marburg wants to become climate-neutral by 2030, and as a local utility we are taking our responsibility seriously by pushing renewable energies, including through innovative projects like the solar films on this heat storage system."

Guido van Tartwijk, CEO of Heliatek: “The project in Marburg is not only an eye-catcher in the industrial environment, it also shows again, that our solar films open totally new applications for solar power generation, even on round surfaces.”

This is a perfect example how HeliaSol unlocks hitherto un-addressed solar potential in the urban environment.
